Although the Alien 1.0 boot uses a whole lot of carbon fiber, it doesn’t completely consist of carbon fiber. This has to be taken into account, because we can have some serious advantages using these sort of hybrid modeling instead of the full carbon ones. To make the boot very light the Scarpa Alien 1.0 has a carbon fiber cuff, but it’s made of a carbon core insert on the inside in the lower part of the boot. The fiber cuff is surrounded by select polyamide, which is a strong, very light material. As a progressive and nice flex is needed for dynamic and smooth skiing, this is very important.
The quick-release walk/ski mode lever in the Alien 1.0 is the best developed by SCARPA ever. It’s is amazingly precise and very easy to use. It has an easy transition between modes, because one lever controls both loosening the cuff and changing walk/ski modes.
